Alderbridge at Infosec 2013

We joined some of the industry’s top experts and vendors at this year’s Infosec event at Earl’s Court, where our CEO and ISSA Director Geoff Harris took the stage along with John Colley, Managing Director EMEA for (ISC)2 and Sarb Sembhi, Director of Client Services at Incoming Thought to speak to Editor of Infosecurity Magazine, Eleanor Dallaway about the challenges facing information security professionals.

Geoff Harris noted that the most highly regulated companies perform best at following security best practices. As a result, measures such as the UK’s Department of Business, Industry and Skills’ 10 Steps to Cybersecurity are welcome. “Government is doing its bit, but when I go into organizations, it strikes me how often they have not addressed the risks of information security threats, where their assets are, and how to protect them.” He described how a basic ‘stick’ model of making offenders of basic security controls buy doughnuts for the team worked effectively when used to reduce things like unlocked laptops, highlighting that concerns over the human factor are still present in the effort for information security in big organisations.
